UI Feedback

Hello there

I had some suggestions and improvements to the clockify windows app:

  1. The date list entry looks awefully similar to the time entries. I think you should remove the rounded rectangle background, so it looks different and doesn’t clutter the view.

  2. The previous UI looked a lot better in terms of spacing, more time entries were visible and it was easier to edit time entries. I think the spacing should be minimal, or maybe you could have a compact view mode.

  3. The description is now set as the title, even though personally i never use description, i just use the start timer shortcut to start timing my work, it’d be much better if the description would not show at all if it was empty, and the “client - project” could become the title of the time entries.

  4. I don’t see any point on the added drop down icon, It was much easier to just click the time entry to open the sub-entries.

  5. What i was expecting from the new UI was batch editing sub-entries to change client, project, task, description, etc. as i had to do change them one by one manually. It would be a very useful option IMO.

  6. Everytime i start the clockify windows app or install a new version i have to re-assign hotkeys. Even though the hotkey’s checkbox stays true, the hotkey itself is removed.

  7. The heading has a redundant clockify icon and text even though it’s already present in the window title bar, you could just remove that or at least reduce the padding.

  8. Instead of :heavy_dollar_sign: and :label: icons, which don’t really give much information, you could show “time × hourly rate” which actually gives meaningful information.

  9. It would be appreciated if there was a version history page, so we could download previous versions (download links can be disabled for the versions that don’t work with the newest server version)

  10. (EDIT) There is also a unnecessary spacing between sub-entries, which is exactly similar to the date entries, It would be much better if you showed them together without any spacing, similar to how it was before.

Lastly, Thank you for making this awesome app and the usual updates.

Best Regards,
Mohammad

I agree with pretty much every one of Mohammad’s points.

I find the new UI look too ‘monotone’. I’m finding it much harder to pick out and identify which project I want to put time against, especially now that the :play_button: button is gone.

#3 is a big one for me as well. I don’t really ever put the task info or description in because it isn’t that “defined or discrete”. What’s important to me is the project.

The colored dot for the project color is so small it’s barely even noticable, so it’s essentially become useless in terms of helping to quickly identify a project based on color. It’s also very similar in location to the :heavy_dollar_sign: and :label: icons so it kind of gets lost. One small and easy change would be to increase the size of the color tag dot, and possibly make the circles for billable and tag to match the project color?

Hey @campUH

You can continue your project by clicking the three-dot button and selecting Continue, for some reason the three-dot button’s context menu doesn’t have icons, but when you right click the time entry it does have icons, but doesn’t have the continue option.

  • I think removing the play button was a bad UX decision and It should be back
  • I also think instead of a colored dot, the time entry box can have a colored left border so it’s more visible and easier to spot.

I’m aware that you can continue the project by clicking the 3 dots. it’s just much harder to locate the tiny buttons, click, move to continue, click. This is considerably more finnicky that finding a big play button and clicking on it and getting back to work.
