This feature request is for the Windows app.
I frequently switch between multiple clients and tasks throughout the day. Clockify handles repeated entries with identical parameters well, but the daily view becomes difficult to manage when the descriptions differ.
For example:
-
I work for Client A on “Task 1” for one hour.
-
I work for Client B on “Task 1” for one hour.
-
I return to the previous Client A entry and continue “Task 1” for three hours. Clockify groups these Client A sessions together because their parameters are identical.
-
I then work for Client B on “Task 2” for one hour.
At this point, I have three visible groups:
-
Client A — Task 1
-
Client B — Task 1
-
Client B — Task 2
The two Client B entries remain separate because their descriptions differ, even though they belong to the same client.
This becomes difficult on days when I work on 5–10 tasks for one client, several tasks for another client, and several more for a third. I may switch between clients and tasks in increments as short as 15 minutes, resulting in a large number of separate entries by the end of the day.
I ultimately enter this time into NetSuite. NetSuite has one row per client per day, where I enter:
-
The total time worked for that client
-
A description containing all tasks completed for that client
To do this from Clockify, I currently have to manually add together every entry for a client and collect the unique descriptions from each entry.
My workaround is to keep every entry for a client synchronized throughout the day. For example, when beginning “Task 2” for Client B, I edit the earlier Client B entry from “Task 1” to “Task 1, Task 2” and restart that entry. If I later begin another task, I must update all previous entries for that client again so that every entry has the same combined description. This works, but it becomes very tedious.
I would like an option to group all entries for the same client on a given day, regardless of differences in their descriptions. When the group is expanded, Clockify could either:
-
Show each individual time segment and its description, or
-
Automatically generate a combined list of the unique descriptions for that client
The collapsed group could show the client’s total time for the day. This would make it much easier to transfer daily totals and task descriptions into another time-tracking or billing system.
There may already be another way to accomplish this, so guidance on an existing workflow would also be welcome. I assume there is a way to do this with reports in the web app, but I would really like this to be a first class feature in the Windows app.
I am using the latest version of the Clockify Windows desktop application.
